On remote islands in the Pacific, the survivors of the Great Dying struggle to rebuild their world. Intrepid yachtsmen mount risky voyages to the mainland, picking over the ruins in dangerous missions to recover useful salvage.
For the end of the world was just the beginning of a new horror. The plague didn't just kill 99% of humanity - it brought its victims back, their bodies animated by the virus itself. The monsters are deadly but mindless predators. They can't be outfought - but they can be outwitted.
Everything changes when Matty, a teen-aged solo sailor, returns with a story of new intelligent alphas, who can coordinate and control the mindless drones. She argues that a war is coming - and humanity must strike first.
In SLACK WATER, she must forge a new crew from the disparate survivors and launch an expedition to discover the emerging threat's intentions. But Matty learns that evil has many faces and that, before defeating her enemy beyond the horizon, she must battle those closer to home.
What is the Southwind Saga?
The Southwind Saga is a series of books with a nautical focus set in a post-apocalyptic world. Think Walking Dead with boats
or (as one reviewer put it) The Young Woman and the Zombie
instead of The Old Man and the Sea
In the world of the Southwind Saga, no one really knows what caused the end of the world. No one really understands how the disease, that kills most and turns others into mindless monsters, came to be. The plague that wiped out humanity struck so suddenly that the only survivors were those too isolated to be infected - and too isolated to have a proper idea of what is going on.
It's a Saga as it's an open ended series, where we follow the lives of the main characters - Matty, a nineteen year old female sailor and Zac, a young introverted translator - as they struggle to rebuild society on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean, thirteen years after a zombie apocalypse.
In the first book, Ebb Tide, Matty explores an old shipwreck. Deep within she has found the monsters - call them zombies, biters, deadies, damned, marys or whatever you want - have mutated, with new, intelligent alphas rising to preach a gospel of a coming Dark Lord and the final reckoning of the human race.
Now, in Slack Water, she must convince other survivors of the coming threat - and take the first steps to build her crew with which she will confront this new menace and, in the process, discover who killed the world.
